Originally published in 1902, this comprehensive and very well illustrated small book begins with a review of the various appliances of the smithy's shop, including swages, cone mandrels, forges, cranes and anvils. A thorough treatment of the hand tools of the blacksmith is next, followed by succeeding chapters on the fundamental techniques of forge work including drawing, welding, upsetting and punching. Later chapters examine examples of the day to day work of the practicing smith and provide instructions for the crafting of a forge and forge tools. This is a handy little book that is filled with illustrations and information. A very nice reprint and is 4 by 7.
